The Raptor Awards Network of independent, quality assured training providers can help you with basic bird of prey courses as well as more advanced and specialist training. If you are already experienced they can simply offer an assessment of your skills.
The Raptor Awards certificates are your guarantee that what you are taught or assessed against complies with The International and Occupational Standards for Bird of Prey Welfare. Note: Only Raptor Awards approved providers train or assess to the National Standards.
Basic qualifications available
Keeping birds of prey
For individuals wishing to keep an owl or other bird of prey. Five modules cover all aspects of bird of prey husbandry.
Training birds of prey
For those who wish to allow their birds to fly freely, and train these to return safely to the glove.
Professional level qualifications available
Level 3 Professional Certificate in avian pest control (abatement) using birds of prey
Specifically for individuals using birds of prey for pest control purposes and who are responsible for all aspects of the job from initial site survey, through obtaining correct licenses to delivery of the service.
Delivered by a small team of highly experienced professional bird control experts and based on the National Standards.
Level 2 Certificate in avian pest control (abatement) using birds of prey
Aimed at operatives/ technicians usually employed in this role.
Training course for continual professional development
Sick and injured birds of prey (safe handling and best practice)
A one-day course for those that may come into contact with sick or injured birds of prey, e.g. veterinary staff, RSPCA, Police Wildlife Officers, Staff/ volunteers at Wildlife Rescue Centres etc.
8 hours CPD certificate for members of the RCVS, BVNA or other bodies that require evidence of relevant CPD.
